Project Overview

We designed and developed Sleep Cloud9, a harmonious integration of a cutting-edge app and an ergonomic cloud-shaped pillow using the habit forming strategy of the Hook Model introduced by Nir Eyal. These complementary products are tailored for students through the Thomas Jefferson University’s User Experience and Interaction Design Master’s Program to foster better sleep habits and enhance overall productivity. We aim to ensure students achieve the recommended 8 hours of sleep daily, positively impacting their academic performance, social interactions, and self-care routines.

The Challenge

Students face immense pressure and stress, often sacrificing sleep, leading to diminished productivity and overall well-being.

The Process

Our design process for Sleep Cloud9 included:

  • Storyboards: Visual storytelling to outline user experiences.
  • Moscow Method: Prioritizing features based on Must-Have, Should-Have, Could-Have, and Won’t-Have criteria.
  • Risky Assumptions: Identifying and testing assumptions to mitigate risks.
  • Flow Chart: Structuring the app’s user journey.
  • Skeleton Wireframe: Creating the basic layout and structure.
  • Prototyping and Usability Testing: Developing and testing digital prototypes to validate design choices.

Integrated Sleep Tracking and Management

The app syncs with your calendar, schedule, and to-do list, acting as a personal assistant to help you meet your sleep and task goals. It provides real-time feedback on your sleep quality and productivity levels, ensuring you stay on track.

Community Support and Interaction

The app allows students to connect with friends, offering encouragement and support. Celebrate achievements together or lend a helping hand when someone needs a boost.

Ergonomic Pillow with Sleep Monitoring

The Sleep Cloud9 Pillow supports natural sleeping positions while tracking sleep quality and duration. It offers color-coded alerts to indicate rest levels and features a gentle wake-up alarm.

We embraced a brand mood of Simplicity, characterized by soft, airy, peaceful, and light elements. Our goal was to create a visual and emotional experience that promotes tranquility and restfulness.
